Abstract
As a regulatory tool, climate litigation could significantly contribute to, and amplify, mitigation and adaptation efforts. However, due to conceptual, methodological and practical obstacles, the impacts of climate litigation are poorly understood. That knowledge gap limits the extent to which climate litigation can be strategic and effective in supporting mitigation and adaptation. In part, this knowledge gap is attributable to a paucity of conceptual frameworks to understand the impacts of climate litigation. Addressing this problem, the presentation draws on lessons from analogous litigation contexts and policy evaluation to offer a conceptual framework for scoping climate litigation impact evaluations.
